Use of sgrag clutch in renewable energy

[edit]

Multi-directional motions tamed through a sprag clutch to drive an electric generator is beyond motorcycles and automobiles. Joefaust (talk) 18:56, 23 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Source of "sprag" word?

[edit]

SOED 1 Pit prop, 2 "A stout stick or bar inserted between the spokes of a wheel to check its motion; a similar device used on a vehicle as a brake". Sprag and sprag clutch are not synonymous, one being a component used in the other and I intend to de-merge, if that's OK. Globbet (talk) 11:12, 21 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

In the light of this the opening sentence "A sprag is a one-way freewheel clutch" is wrong. In fact most of the article refers to the mechanism, rather than the component, although (decrying false modesty) the diagram label is right. There is sound logic to the de-merger proposal but I tend to oppose because the "sprag" article would be so short. Suggest instead a minor re-write here to put "sprag" and "sprag clutch" into their proper contexts. Whatever, the point is valid and needs to be addressed.--Old Moonraker (talk) 14:36, 21 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
OK, how about removing the redirect from Sprag clutch then merging Sprag to Sprag clutch? We could also have Sprag in Wictionary. Globbet (talk) 23:32, 21 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Copy edit for terminology done. Globbet (talk) 00:17, 22 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Support the merge you suggest, with "Sprag" becoming the redirect page. In fact this needs to be done because, as it stands, the opening sentence here doesn't reflect the title. --Old Moonraker (talk) 07:00, 22 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Done as a move (you learn something every day). Globbet (talk) 10:52, 22 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Nice job. --Old Moonraker (talk) 11:11, 22 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

An schematic please?

[edit]

A drawing (perhaps with cross-sections) of the mechanism would be quite a great addition to the article; i'm having a hard time visualizing how this thing works. --TiagoTiago (talk) 02:14, 24 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

what is dsdsvs?

[edit]

The “Hoist Load Brake” section mentions “dsdsvs loads”, that’s not a real word afaict. 73.114.149.45 (talk) 00:57, 23 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
